State Theatre
Minneapolis, MN
Concert Review
We took off for the
State Theater at about 7:30, and we got there at about 8:15. There was some guy
sitting outside playing a bongo drum. As we were walking up, we saw the huge
marquee that advertised the show, with correct spelling! Yay! Then we went
inside.
The theater was really old, and elegant. Also, very BIG! We found our seats, and
we waited for the show to begin. While we were waiting, someone in the row ahead
of us was collecting signatures for Al’s star on the Rock & Roll hall of fame.
So my brother Andy, our friend Eric, and me signed our names on the list.
After about only 5 or 10 minutes of waiting, Funzone started blasting! We picked
the right time to arrive, because we didn’t have to wait a long time for the
show to begin. Everybody in the venue was clapping, including myself. I knew
that by the crowd reaction from just Funzone by itself, that the people were
just gonna go wild when Al went on stage, and boy did they ever! Everyone was
singing along, having a fun time as Al did Angry White Boy Polka.
During Party At The Leper Colony, Al put his leg on Steve’s shoulder, and played
around with the front row a little bit. Your Horoscope For Today was played the
same as last time.
For the Complicated Song intro, Al picked on someone in the front row about how
their cell phone was the loudest in the world, and that they can wait for them
to take the call. Then of coarse, Jim pointed out to Al that it was HIS phone!
Then Melanie was performed. It was a little different this time. Near the end,
Al interrupts the song, and said that it was time for the guitar solo, then as
Jim played the solo, Al just stood there, staring at him! It was super funny!
Then Al introduced the members of the band, completely ignoring Ruben, who was
trying to get Al’s attention because he was skipped! Then Al tried to take a
song request from the audience, but he decided Jim would be the best person to
request the song. Jim wanted to hear some old Zeppelin! They nailed Whole Lotta
Love perfectly! Al even sounded exactly like Robert Plant! It was really well
done! Then One More Minute was performed, and Al went up the center aisle,
giving away scarf’s, sitting on laps, and pulling out underwear from his pants
and throwing them on someone’s head.
Dog Eat Dog was performed next, the same as last time then Al did It’s All About
The Pentiums. Wanna B Ur Lovr was next. A lot of energy from Al. This one got a
great response from the audience! Trash Day was performed, with a TON of energy,
then Al started the medley. When it came time for Jerry Springer, Al forgot the
words, and sang the last verse in the beginning.
Smells Like Nirvana was awesome as usual! A LOT of energy from Al and the band.
This will always me one of my favorite live performances. During Amish Paradise,
I didn’t notice one person not waving their arms! It was a awesome time during
the show. Couch Potato was next. Al flubbed the Wilma and Betty line at the
beginning. Though, the song still got a very good crowd reaction. Fat was
performed the same, though Santa went flying when he was punched my Al!
Darth Ruben came out shortly after, and played chopsticks, then Al performed The
Saga Begins. Yoda has SO much energy from both Al, and the audience. When they
were doing the chant, I chanted along loudly, trying to get weird looks from
people. I got nothing. Grrr!
Al then said goodnight, and waved goodbye to the audience. I sure smiled a lot,
and waved a lot before he left the stage! That was awesome to see that!
We left the theater, then waited with some fans for a possible meet and greet.
It was about 10 minutes later, Ruben and Bermuda came out. Bermuda got on a van
right away, and took off. Ruben walked through the crowd, and said he’d be right
back. When he did, Jim came out. People started snapping pics, but I didn’t take
any, because he started to look annoyed. Steve came out and walked though the
crowd. I waved at him, and he waved back! Ruben walked passed again, and I
snapped a pic of him. Shortly, Jim walked through the crowd, and he also waved
back at me!
About an hours worth of waiting, someone came out, and told us to follow him to
the busses and that Al would be out in a couple minutes! He told us that it
would be only 1 picture, and 1 autograph, and that no stories were to be told,
because they were in a hurry. I saw Steve hanging out by the busses, but my pic
didn’t turn out. A few minutes passed, and I saw Al from inside the building
round the corner! I then started freaking out! I only had to wait for a few
people to get their autographs before it was my turn! I remember looking at my
brother when Al was signing the autograph for the person that was in front of
me, and just said kinda loudly: “I cant believe he’s right in front of me!!!”.
Then Al looked up and me and said Hi! I got my Poodle Hat autographed, and a
group photo taken with Al, my brother Andy, our friend Eric, and me!
This was the best night of my life! I still can’t believe I met Al! It’s just
too cool!!! I defiantly cant wait for my next concert!
